President William Ruto on Thursday held a high-profile meeting with the Gusii political leadership at State House, Nairobi, signaling a renewed focus on the region’s economic growth and development agenda.
The delegation was led by Kisii Governor Simba Arati and joined by prominent figures including ODM leader Raila Odinga, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, and Solicitor General Shadrack Mose, among other senior leaders.
In his address, President Ruto described the meeting as “a rare and historic opportunity” to chart a new path of prosperity for Kisii and Nyamira counties, outlining massive projects valued at more than Sh50 billion.
For Kisii County, the President announced the rollout of 15,000 affordable housing units worth Sh30 billion, a Sh2.5 billion investment in modern tertiary student hostels, and four state-of-the-art markets collectively valued at Sh2.4 billion.
Turning to Nyamira County, Dr. Ruto revealed equally ambitious plans, including 7,000 housing units, new student hostels, and three ultra-modern markets. The Nyamira development package is valued at over Sh16 billion, aimed at boosting local trade and job creation.
The President further disclosed that more than 32,000 households across Kisii and Nyamira will be connected to reliable electricity, a move he said would unlock commerce, empower industries, and improve livelihoods across the Gusii region.
Raila Odinga’s presence at the meeting underscored growing signs of political cooperation, as leaders from across the divide expressed commitment to uniting behind transformative projects that uplift citizens.
Governor Arati welcomed the investments, affirming that the projects will open new opportunities for residents, while Education CS Ogamba emphasized the critical role of hostels in expanding student access to higher education.
The meeting, held in a spirit of bipartisanship, ended with a collective pledge to fast-track implementation of the projects and ensure that the Gusii region fully benefits from the national development agenda.
President Ruto Stated that his administration is committed to spreading prosperity evenly across the country, ensuring no community is left behind in Kenya’s journey toward economic transformation.
