Shock and grief have engulfed the Kibomet area of Kitale Town after a Nairobi-based taxi driver allegedly murdered a married woman who had rejected his romantic advances before later being found dead in a lodging.
The victim, 35-year-old Sally Sitawa Saenyi, was reportedly attacked in her home on Saturday 23, by Patrick Silali Barasa, also known as Jeff.
According to family sources, Barasa had been persistently pursuing a relationship with Sally, despite being fully aware that she had been married for over 12 years.
Sally’s father revealed that his daughter had previously reported threats to her life, claiming that Barasa had warned her about his plan to kill her if she refused his advances.
Despite reporting the threats to the police two days earlier, no action was taken, a failure the grieving family now blames for her death.
The suspect is said to have travelled from Nairobi to Kitale to carry out the attack. He allegedly stabbed Sally multiple times—twice in the neck and once in the back.
Neighbours rushed her to Cherang’any Nursing Home, but she was pronounced dead on arrival. As police launched a manhunt, Barasa’s body was later discovered in a lodging in Moi’s Bridge Township, just a few kilometres from the crime scene.
Authorities confirmed his identity and moved his body to the Wamalwa Kijana Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary alongside that of the victim.
Investigations are ongoing as the family demands justice and accountability, especially from law enforcement officers who ignored early warnings.
The double tragedy has sparked fresh calls for urgent police reforms to prevent such preventable deaths.
