A week after Rigathi Gachagua left the country to the United States of America, his peer and presidential candidate Fred Matiang’i has followed him in a separate mission.
As reported by the Star, Matiang’i’s abrupt return to the US is in effort to try woo moneyed or rather deep pocketed Kenyans in diaspora to support his statehouse bid.
This unique group of Kenyans will come in handy on campaign funds mobilization as running a one of a kind presidential campaign is no child’s play as it requires deep financial muscles.
Whereas Rigathi Gachagua who is in company of Martha Karua is expected to stay in the United States for a period of two months, it is unclear as to when Fred Matiang’i will be jetting back into the country.
The departure of the three leaders will surely ease pressure in the country’s political environment. The trio has been a key pillar in nationwide rallies aimed at drumming up support for the opposition side.
With their departure, Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa and George Natembeya are expected to keep the pressure on president William Ruto’s administration high. Mr Wamalwa and Kalonzo have recently been held up in the courts defending those arrested during this month’s street skirmishes.
Other candidates including Okiya Omtatah and David Maraga are also actively playing the opposition’s role without public rallies.
On the government’s side, Deputy President professor Kithure Kindiki with a myriad of other senior leaders including National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula and majority leader Kimani Ichungwah continue to lead nationwide campaigns duped ’empowerment missions’
