Orange Democratic Movement has taken a firm position on its future political engagements ahead of the next general election cycle.
Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma has declared that the party will not enter into any coalition agreement without securing a top leadership position.
Kaluma stated that ODM must either produce the presidential candidate or be guaranteed the deputy presidential slot in any alliance it joins.
He emphasized that the party has a strong national support base that cannot be overlooked during coalition negotiations.
According to him, ODM has consistently played a major role in shaping the country’s political direction over the years.
He argued that settling for less would undermine the party’s influence and betray the expectations of its supporters across the country.
Kaluma also noted that past political arrangements have often placed ODM in positions that do not reflect its true strength.
He insisted that the party must approach future negotiations with clarity, confidence, and a clear demand for leadership recognition.
The lawmaker added that ODM remains open to partnerships but only under conditions that respect its political weight.
He further explained that coalitions should be built on fairness, mutual respect, and realistic assessment of each party’s support.
Kaluma’s remarks come at a time when political parties are beginning to realign ahead of upcoming elections.
Several leaders have already started engaging in talks aimed at forming strategic alliances to boost their chances at the polls.
His statement is likely to influence how other parties approach negotiations with ODM moving forward.
Political analysts suggest that such a stance could either strengthen ODM’s bargaining power or limit its coalition options.
Supporters of the party have largely welcomed the position, saying it reflects confidence and ambition.
Critics, however, argue that the hardline approach may complicate efforts to build broad based alliances.
Kaluma maintained that leadership positions should reflect electoral strength and not be assigned arbitrarily.
He reiterated that ODM remains committed to championing democratic values and inclusive governance.
As political temperatures continue to rise, ODM’s position signals a potentially competitive and strategic election season ahead.
