There will be no police recruitment after 4PM in the upcoming exercise as the government introduces strict new rules aimed at ensuring transparency and fairness.
The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) announced the changes on Tuesday, warning that anyone attempting late-night or secretive recruitment will face disciplinary action.
The new directive comes after past complaints of corruption, bribery, and irregularities during police intake. Many recruits have previously claimed they were locked out despite arriving early, while others alleged that some officers favored candidates who paid bribes.
According to the NPSC, all recruitment centers will now close strictly at 4PM, and any exercise conducted beyond that time will be considered invalid. Senior officers overseeing the exercise will also be required to file detailed reports, and recruitment will be monitored closely by independent observers.
The police service has also introduced biometric registration to prevent ghost recruits and to ensure that only qualified applicants are considered. Applicants will undergo health checks, physical fitness tests, and document verification on the same day to minimize manipulation of results.
Officials said the changes are part of wider reforms meant to restore confidence in the police service. “We want every young Kenyan to know that recruitment is based on merit, not connections or bribes,” an official said.
The government hopes the measures will encourage more qualified youth to apply and help build a stronger, disciplined police service. Recruitment is set to take place across the country later this month or next month with ten thousand slots available.
