Jeremiah Kioni, the Secretary-General of the Jubilee Party, has said that Oburu Odinga’s decision to work with the Kenya Kwanza administration presents the opposition with a chance to reorganize and emerge stronger ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during an interview with Radio 47 on Tuesday night, Kioni expressed confidence that Kenyans should expect a rejuvenated, youthful, and well-organized Azimio coalition capable of forming the next government by 2027 or even earlier.
The former Ndaragwa MP also noted that the opposition is ready to collaborate with Kenya’s Generation Z in shaping the country’s future. According to him, the coalition is focused on rebuilding itself into a stronger political force driven by young people.
Kioni’s remarks came shortly after ODM leader Oburu Odinga defended the decision by some ODM leaders to work with President William Ruto’s administration despite resistance from Azimio’s co-principals, who had opposed joining Kenya Kwanza in favour of remaining in the opposition.
The opposition leaders argued that entering government after pushing for the withdrawal of the Finance Bill and the dissolution of the Cabinet would amount to betraying the demands of Generation Z protesters.
The debate intensified after President William Ruto announced the nomination of Hassan Joho, Wycliffe Oparanya, John Mbadi, and Opiyo Wandayi to the Cabinet, a move that sparked mixed reactions within both ODM and the Azimio coalition.
