A new political survey has revealed an extremely tight race in Nyeri Town Constituency, with early numbers showing a fierce contest among several candidates ahead of the 2027 election.
According to the latest poll released by Politrack Africa, Roba wa Bursary of the Democracy for Citizens Party is currently leading with 25.1 percent support among voters.
Close behind him is the incumbent Member of Parliament Duncan Maina Mathenge of the United Democratic Alliance, who has 24.0 percent support. The difference between the two stands at just 1.1 percent, showing how competitive the contest has already become.
The survey gathered responses from 7,901 participants, making it one of the most extensive polls conducted recently in Nyeri Town Constituency. The findings offer an early glimpse into the shifting political mood in the region.
Former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu, who is associated with the Jubilee Party, ranks third with 13.7 percent support. Two other contenders also appear to have a notable following.
Purity Mumbi of DCP has 12.9 percent support, while Mwangi Box follows with 11.6 percent. Their presence in the race suggests the constituency could witness a multi-candidate contest where small shifts in voter support may determine the final outcome.
One of the key observations from the poll is the combined strength of the two DCP candidates. Together, Roba wa Bursary and Purity Mumbi command about 38 percent support. Political observers say this could trigger discussions about strategy within the party, especially if leaders consider rallying behind a single candidate to strengthen their chances.
The number of undecided voters stands at 3.4 percent, a relatively small figure compared to many early political surveys.
This suggests that most voters in Nyeri Town already have a clear preference, leaving little room for dramatic shifts unless campaigns significantly change public perception.
With such a narrow gap separating the leading candidates, the coming months are expected to bring intense campaigning across the constituency.
Political rallies, grassroots mobilization, and online messaging could all play a crucial role in shaping the final result.
If the current trend holds, Nyeri Town may witness one of the closest parliamentary races in the region.
