A mechanical engineering student at Kaiboi Technical was depressed and used to be all alone. Now, the reasons for his state of health have emerged Timon, who comes from Burnt Forest, had made mistakes and was afraid to share them with his parents.Things, however, looked up after well-wishers stepped in to help him with new household items to assist him along the way.
In a video shared by Arap Uria, the second-year Mechanical Engineering student at Kaiboi Technical, he is seen sleeping in a house where he had locked himself in. According to Uria, the young man comes from Burnt Forest, and because of poverty, he has been surviving on nothing but sugarcane; on a lucky day, he gets mahindi choma.
“His landlady told me that he always comes in quietly, locks himself inside his room, and never lets anyone in. Today, she finally managed to open his door, and what she found was heartbreaking: the boy has absolutely nothing in his room, not even a blanket to cover himself at night,” he said.
“He rarely goes home due to his situation. No one should have to go through this,” he added.
Content creator Arap Uria visited Timon at Kaiboi Technical Institute, and the young man’s parents, who had also heard of his predicament, came along. When the group arrived, they confirmed that the situation was indeed as they had earlier shared on social media. They had a conversation with his parents, who had travelled all the way from Burnt Forest, and learned that they are responsible and committed to supporting their son.
How did Timon get help? “Unfortunately, the conditions at Timon’s residence were very poor. Sadly, everything his parents had bought for him, including his phone, had been stolen. Out of fear of disappointing them, he chose to suffer in silence and simply survive,” shared Uria.
We had a conversation with his tutor, who promised to connect us with the school counselor since Timon has been struggling with depression to the point of missing classes. Thankfully, he will now receive full assistance and close follow-up,” he added. Through well-wishers, KSh 54,000 was raised, and it will partially cover his current term’s fees. In addition, the group bought him a bed, mattress, clothing, foodstuffs, and essential household items to restore dignity to his living conditions.
“Timon assured us that he is determined to change course and focus fully on his education going forward. His parents were deeply touched by the overwhelming support and expressed their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who came through for their son,” said Uria.
