Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi appeared before the Kiambu Law Courts on Tuesday over allegations of forging academic certificates dating back to 1994.
The MP faces six counts of falsifying Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) documents, which he allegedly used to advance his career.
Prosecutors claim that Koimburi knowingly submitted the fake academic documents to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), a move that could have influenced his political and professional trajectory.
The prosecution further stated that investigations revealed inconsistencies in his academic records, prompting legal action.
Koimburi, a close ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, now faces potential political fallout as the case unfolds.
Legal experts suggest that if convicted, the MP could face disqualification from holding public office, dealing a significant blow to his political ambitions.
Koimburi’s defense team dismissed the charges as politically motivated, arguing that the timing of the case raises questions about its intent.
The court set a hearing date for next month, with the MP expected to present his defense.
Meanwhile, political observers are closely watching how the case could impact Juja’s leadership and upcoming elections.
