Wiper patriotic front leader Kalonzo Musyoka, has announced that opposition supporters will take to the streets on June 25, 2026, in a planned demonstration aimed at honouring young Kenyans who lost their lives during the 2024 anti-Finance Bill protests, while also voicing opposition to proposed fiscal policies under the Finance Bill 2026/27.
Speaking in Thika, the Wiper Patriotic Front leader said the march will serve both as a memorial and a protest against rising economic pressure and alleged state excesses during past demonstrations.
He argued that many young protesters were killed in earlier unrest linked to taxes and unemployment, insisting that families still deserve justice and accountability for the incidents.
He further criticised the Finance Bill 2026/27, warning that it would place additional strain on citizens, and reaffirmed that the opposition would continue peaceful mobilisation against unpopular policies.
According to him, the June 25 event will mark a symbolic anniversary of the 2024 protests and renew calls for political reforms and improved governance ahead of the 2027 elections.
Supporters present in Thika pledged continued mobilisation, turning the gathering into a strong political signal as leaders rallied unity ahead of the next general election cycle.
The announcement, originally reported by People Daily, has intensified political debate across the country as rival camps prepare for heightened activity in the coming months. Analysts note that the planned demonstration could further shape opposition strategies and influence public sentiment ahead of the next electoral cycle.
