Kagwiria Koome is a Kenyan international development professional specializing in agriculture, food systems, and livelihoods improvement.
She serves as the Manager of the Food Initiative at the Rockefeller Foundation, where she oversees a grant portfolio aimed at transforming food systems to provide nutritious, sustainable food while protecting the environment.
Her work includes initiatives like the Good Food Innovation Fund, supporting smallholder farmers in Kenya through projects such as YieldWise, and addressing challenges like climate change impacts in Africa, including discussions at the 2023 Africa Climate Summit in Nairobi.
She is the daughter of Martha Koome, the Chief Justice of Kenya, and Koome Kiragu.
She has two siblings: a brother, Kelvin Koome, and a sister, Nkirote Koome.
Kagwiria Koome studied law, following in her mother’s footsteps as a legal professional. She holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Keele University in the United Kingdom.
She further pursued a Master of Arts in Development Studies from the University of East Anglia, which aligned with her career in international development.
