Murang’a County Senator Joe Nyutu, on Friday, September 12, 2025, revealed that the reason why other MPs skipped Rigathi Gachagua’s meeting is that they were never supposed to attend in the first place.
Speaking to the media, Nyutu said that the select MCAs who visited the Democracy for Citizens’ Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua did so after their colleagues mobilised more than 4,000 residents to attend a separate State House event.
“To all Murang’a leaders and the whole assembly,. It was an assembly matter, which is why they invited me as the senator of the county.
“The Senator has the seat in the assembly. That is why it is only the senator who is here; other leaders aren’t here,” Nyutu explained.
The senator further clarified that his role as the elected representative in the Senate gave him the mandate to attend the meeting with Gachagua, noting that no other leader had been required to join.
Nyutu hits out at State House
Nyutu took issue with President William Ruto, saying the Head of State does not need to call delegations to State House to understand the needs of Murang’a County.
“President William Ruto doesn’t need to call people to the State House to know what Murang’a needs. He called people to the State House to bribe them in an attempt to sway them from Gachagua’s camp,” the senator claimed.

His remarks come amid growing political friction between allies of President Ruto and those rallying behind former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who has been building influence through his Democracy for Citizens’ Party.
The senator’s comments highlight the widening rift in Murang’a politics, with leaders divided between attending Gachagua’s events and aligning with the State House.
With the county emerging as a key battleground, Nyutu’s strong stance signals that the contest between the two camps is far from over.
