A police officer was injured in an accidental shooting while on duty in Kibii, Juja, Kiambu County.
The incident occurred when the officer, accompanied by a colleague, went to arrest a suspected drug trafficker.
Their mission was disrupted by a hostile crowd that opposed their presence in the area.
Police said the officer slipped in a muddy section as the mob confronted them. While reaching for his pistol, the weapon discharged a single bullet that struck him in the left leg.
His colleague immediately called for backup and medical assistance. The mob dispersed, giving the suspect a chance to escape.
The injured officer was rushed to hospital, where he was treated and confirmed to be in stable condition.
Police have since launched investigations into the incident and are pursuing the suspect who fled during the operation.
Authorities have warned the public against interfering with police operations, saying such actions endanger both officers and civilians.
