Businessman and politician Jimi Wanjigi has sparked fresh political debate after challenging the opposition to explain what comes next if its campaign against President William Ruto succeeds.
Speaking on the growing popularity of the “Wantam” and “Ruto Must Go” slogans, Wanjigi said the messages have resonated with many Kenyans but argued that they should be accompanied by a clear vision for the country’s future.
“Saying ‘Wantam’ and ‘Ruto Must Go’ is fine. But what is the hope? Then what?” Wanjigi posed, urging opposition leaders to focus on presenting practical solutions alongside their criticism of the government.
According to Wanjigi, many Kenyans are struggling with the high cost of living, unemployment, rising taxes and other economic challenges. He said citizens deserve to hear how any alternative leadership would address these issues instead of relying only on political slogans.
His remarks come as political activity continues to intensify ahead of the 2027 General Election, with opposition leaders stepping up attacks on President William Ruto’s administration. The “Wantam” slogan has become a rallying call among government critics who are pushing for Ruto to serve only one term.
Wanjigi maintained that successful political campaigns must inspire confidence by offering a roadmap for economic recovery, job creation, improved governance and better public services. He argued that voters want more than promises—they want leaders with a clear and credible plan.
His comments have generated mixed reactions, with some Kenyans agreeing that the opposition should articulate its agenda more clearly, while others insist that removing the current administration remains the immediate priority.
As the 2027 race gradually takes shape, Wanjigi’s challenge has shifted the conversation from campaign slogans to the bigger question of what kind of leadership and policies should guide Kenya’s future.
