Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has sparked fresh political debate after declaring that he regrets supporting President William Ruto, saying the Kenya Kwanza administration lacked a clear understanding of how to run the government during its early days in office.
The remarks, made during a public address on Wednesday, July 2, quickly went viral after being shared on social media, with supporters and critics weighing in on the lawmaker’s latest criticism of the government.
In the widely circulated clip, Nyoro said he regrets supporting “the wheelbarrow and its driver”—a phrase widely understood to refer to President Ruto and the wheelbarrow symbol that featured prominently during Kenya Kwanza’s campaigns.
“I regret supporting the wheelbarrow and its driver. He did not have the slightest idea of running the government, and that’s why during the first year of the Kenya Kwanza administration, we used to launch even projects that had been done by Mzee Jomo Kenyatta,” Nyoro is quoted as saying.
His latest remarks come just days after he publicly apologised to Kenyans for missing the National Assembly vote on the Finance Bill 2026, admitting that his absence disappointed many members of the public. He acknowledged the criticism and said he had learned important lessons from the incident.
