Actress Trisha Khalid has revealed how celebrated actress, producer, and filmmaker Lulu Hassan became the person who transformed her career by encouraging her to leave Mombasa and relocate to Nairobi, a move that opened doors to bigger opportunities in Kenya’s film and television industry.

Speaking during a TikTok Live session, Trisha explained that her acting journey began unexpectedly after Lulu discovered her through the comedy skits she regularly shared on social media. At the time, Trisha had built an online following with humorous videos but had never considered acting as a career.

According to Trisha, Lulu reached out and offered her a role in the TV drama Kovu. She admitted that she initially declined the opportunity because she did not see herself as an actress. However, Lulu encouraged her to give acting a chance, believing she had the talent to succeed.

After accepting the role, Trisha impressed the production team with her performance in Kovu. Her acting skills later earned her a leading role in the popular television series Becky, a project filmed primarily in Nairobi.

While working on the show, Trisha travelled frequently between Nairobi and Mombasa. She said the production team catered for her flights and accommodation, allowing her to spend weekdays filming before returning home during weekends. Although the arrangement worked initially, the constant travelling eventually became physically exhausting.

It was during this period that Lulu Hassan advised her to make a permanent move to Nairobi. Trisha recalled that Lulu believed the capital city would provide better career prospects, more acting opportunities, and greater exposure within the entertainment industry.

Around the same time, Trisha’s popularity was rising rapidly because of her role in Becky. She also started attracting endorsement deals and commercial partnerships, making Nairobi an even more strategic base for her growing career.

Despite understanding the professional benefits, Trisha admitted that relocating was one of the hardest decisions she had ever made. Having spent her entire life in Mombasa, she found it emotionally painful to leave her family behind.

She revealed that the situation became even more difficult because her mother was seriously ill at the time. Trisha often boarded late-night flights back to Mombasa after filming just to spend time with her mother before returning to Nairobi for work. The emotional pressure and demanding schedule took a toll on her health, causing her to lose significant weight.

Today, Trisha credits Lulu Hassan not only for introducing her to acting but also for guiding her through one of the most important decisions of her career. She believes accepting Lulu’s advice helped her grow into one of Kenya’s most recognised television actresses.

Her story highlights how mentorship, persistence, and the courage to embrace change can reshape a person’s future.

From creating comedy skits in Mombasa to starring in successful television productions, Trisha Khalid says Lulu Hassan’s belief in her talent changed the course of her life and career.
