Dennis Itumbi, the Head of Creative Economy and Special Projects in the Office of the President, has officially announced that the 2025 Jamhuri Day celebrations will be staged at the brand-new Talanta Sports Stadium along Ngong Road.
The 60,000-seater stadium, currently under construction, is one of the government’s flagship projects in preparation for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which Kenya will co-host alongside Uganda and Tanzania.
Speaking on Friday, September 12, Itumbi revealed that this year’s national celebrations will focus on the theme of Tourism, Wildlife, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions).
He made the announcement after holding a planning session with Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano, where they agreed to establish a joint team tasked with crafting a comprehensive concept for the celebrations.
“This year’s Jamhuri Day will revolve around highlighting Kenya’s tourism and conference potential. We are working on an integrated concept that will capture both the spirit of independence and the opportunities that the creative and tourism sectors present,” said Itumbi.
He further noted that once the initial framework is ready, detailed logistical preparations will kick off.
The Talanta Sports Stadium, located at the Jamhuri Grounds, is expected to be completed in December 2025, just in time for the celebrations. Its modern design and large capacity will make it one of the premier sporting and events arenas in the region.
Meanwhile, the government has also confirmed that the upcoming Mashujaa Day celebrations on October 10 will be hosted in Kitui County at the Ithookwe Stadium.
The 10,000-seater venue, built at a cost of Ksh 700 million, is nearing completion. In preparation, the Kitui Airstrip and surrounding roads are being upgraded to handle the expected influx of visitors.
