Baby pendo Mother

Hakima Nguet’s life has been full of struggle from the start. Born in Kakuma Refugee Camp, she faced pain, loss, and betrayal early on. She was married off young, raised three kids alone, and worked hard to study and survive.

Hakima, who had gone through induction during her first three deliveries, expected the same this time. But her labor was slow. Doctors decided to break her water by hand. That’s when they saw something was wrong.

Her baby girl was born without crying. For more than 10 minutes, the newborn didn’t move. Doctors later found that the baby had swallowed stool inside the womb. This caused her to lose oxygen and suffer brain damage.

The baby was taken to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), where she stayed for six days. Hakima prayed and hoped, but the child did not make it.

“It broke me,” Hakima said. “I cried so much, I lost 12 kilograms in two weeks.”She buried her baby at Lang’ata Cemetery. But her pain didn’t end there.

The man she trusted, the father of her kids, turned his back on her. Instead of helping, he took her car, used it for fun with his friends, and left her with nothing.

She remembered how she had once grabbed the same car and became an Uber driver when her first child was only seven months old. She did it to feed her children. And now, after losing her baby, the same man made things worse.

Hakima had been depressed throughout the pregnancy. She had no money and little support. But even in her pain, she found the strength to leave him. Today, she is still driving her cab and raising her kids, determined to give them a better life.
