A boyhood friendship created within the firmly entrenched walls of State House has been abbreviated in a tragic loss. Constable Mattanka a down-to-earth officer who was most recognized by his humble demeanor and fidelity was slain in the most unconventional of ways by an arrow that was supposedly shot by one whom he had considered friend.
According to reports the two men who were close friends while they were at State House had also remained close friends even after they had been redeployed to other security organizations. They were also often seen together, dining and reminiscing about their days in service. Insiders told sources during the assault that the two were together in an apparently friendly environment prior to a scuffle breaking out over an unidentified reason. What began as a shouting match is reported to have escalated quickly and progressed to the gunshot that struck Constable Mattanka in the chest.
Witnesses described the event as surreal a moment of brotherhood immediately turned to terror. People who know Mattanka are attempting to make sense of it all remembering him to be soft-spoken solid officer who never looked for a fight. The suspect a police officer himself is assisting authorities as they try to piece together what compelled the tragedy.
The incident has stirred the security community leaving in its wake the normally overlooked emotional and psychological toll taken by the officers. The investigations continue to this day but questions remain as to how a relationship that is based on trust and service can become so brutally disfigured.
Constable Mattanka’s colleagues have called for a complete investigation calling on justice to be meted out to the man who dedicated his life to protecting others and was slain by the same hand of one he had sworn to protect and trusted. His killing they say is a reminder that even in cultures of duty and obligation treachery can strike at any moment.
