Almost one decade since her dramatic exit from office, on Wednesday, former Deputy Inspector General of Police in-charge of the Kenya Police Service wing, Grace Kaindi made a rare public appearance.
Kaindi, a trailblazer in the police service, was among the senior retired officers who attended the 8th annual general meeting of the National Retired Police Officers Association at the Administration Police Training College at the Embakasi ” A” campus.
The meeting was presided over by the Deputy Inspector General of Police in-charge of the Administration Police Service wing, Gilbert Masengeli.
It was a rare public appearance for Kaindi, who made history as the first woman ever in Kenya to serve as Deputy police boss.
But the former no-nonsense cop exited office in 2015 under controversial circumstances after being forced into retirement by the then President Uhuru Kenyatta. She was succeeded by Joel Kitili, the former GSU commandant.
Kaindi had made history when she became the first female Provincial Police Officer ( PPO ) under the old constitution.
Since her retirement almost one decade ago, the former deputy IG has maintained a low public profile. But on Wednesday, Kenyans got a rare privilege to see the retired cop who was a heartbeat away from becoming Kenya’s police chief.
