Kenyan comedian Njugush has found himself at the center of online criticism after sharing a general Mother’s Day message that many fans felt ignored the mother of his children, Celestine Ndinda. The reactions came only weeks after the two publicly confirmed the end of their long-term relationship.
Njugush posted an artwork showing a mother hugging two children and accompanied it with a popular Kikuyu song praising mothers for their sacrifices. In his caption, he simply wished all mothers around the world a happy Mother’s Day without directly mentioning Ndinda.
The message quickly attracted mixed reactions from fans across social media platforms. Some followers argued that despite their separation, Ndinda still deserved a public appreciation because she remains the mother of his children.
Others accused the comedian of being too distant and cold during such an emotional celebration. Several users flooded the comment section urging him to acknowledge Wakavinye directly instead of posting what they called a “general message.”
However, another section of fans defended Njugush from the criticism. They argued that Mother’s Day is meant to celebrate mothers generally and not necessarily former partners or ex-spouses.
Ndinda also marked the occasion through her Instagram Stories where she celebrated mothers with short messages and family moments. Although she did not address the controversy, many online users continued comparing the two posts and analyzing their relationship status.
The former couple announced earlier this year that they had mutually agreed to separate after years together. They explained that their focus remains peaceful co-parenting and raising their children away from unnecessary drama.
Their breakup has continued attracting public attention, especially after rumours emerged online claiming Njugush had transferred some of his assets to his mother’s name. The claims later triggered heated online debate, with bloggers and fans digging into ownership details linked to the comedian.
Despite the constant speculation, both Njugush and Ndinda have largely remained calm in public as they adjust to life after separation.
