Kenyan comedian Mannerson Oduor Ochieng, popularly known as Akuku Danger, has opened up about the strict and unusual discipline system used in his grandfather’s famous polygamous family, offering a rare glimpse into how order was maintained in a household of extraordinary size.

Speaking during a conversation with media personality Chris the Bass aired on Monday, May 11, the comedian explained that his late grandfather, who reportedly had 266 wives, managed family disputes, especially cases of infidelity, through highly public and formal decisions.

According to Akuku Danger, despite the scale of the family, the wives lived together in what he described as a structured and generally peaceful system governed by clear rules.

He revealed that when allegations of cheating arose, the patriarch would not handle matters privately. Instead, he would summon elders and family members to a public gathering where a final decision would be announced openly.

“One of the things he used to say was that if he caught a wife cheating, he would organise a gathering at the marketplace and officially disown her in public. He would tell the elders, ‘From today, so-and-so is no longer my wife,’” Akuku Danger said.

The comedian explained that this public declaration was meant to eliminate confusion, prevent internal disputes, and maintain order in an otherwise extremely large household structure.

Akuku further noted that not all of the 266 wives remained in the family throughout his grandfather’s lifetime, adding that some left while others passed away over the years, especially after his death in 2010.

He also reflected on his personal perspective on marriage, stating that his upbringing exposed him to both polygamous and monogamous systems. His grandfather practiced polygamy on a large scale, while his father had only one wife.

“Polygamy works. I have seen it work in my grandfather’s home, and I have also seen monogamy work in my father’s household,” he said.

He added that his grandfather was actually his mother’s father, reinforcing the strong family link to the widely known polygamous figure.

The revelations have sparked interest due to the scale of the family and the unconventional but structured way discipline was reportedly enforced.
