A light moment played out at the Makadara Law Courts after a man arrested for being in possession of marijuana shocked the courtroom with his unapologetic confession.
The accused, appearing before Magistrate Hon. Beatrice Kimemia, left those present amused when he openly admitted that he uses marijuana to “energize” himself for work.
With striking confidence, the man told the court that his family is fully aware of his long-time marijuana use, which he described as medicinal rather than criminal.
According to him, smoking a few puffs before work keeps him strong, active, and able to meet the physical demands of his daily job.
The accused, who works in the construction sector, defended himself passionately.
He explained that the nature of his work involves intense manual labor, such as carrying heavy stones, digging deep trenches, mixing concrete, and performing other strenuous activities under the scorching sun.
These tasks, he argued, require exceptional strength and endurance—something he believes marijuana helps him achieve.
As he narrated his experience, some people in the courtroom could not hold back their laughter. His emotional yet humorous explanation painted the picture of a man who truly believed in the “energizing” power of cannabis.
He insisted that without marijuana, he often finds himself drained and unable to keep up with the demanding pace at construction sites.
For him, the herb is not a recreational substance but a necessary boost to survive the harsh realities of his work environment.
Despite the laughter, the court proceeded to address the charges against him. The magistrate is expected to deliver a ruling on the matter after considering his candid explanation and the legal implications of drug possession.
