Dr. Kingori

Behind the laughter, sharp political jokes and entertaining television moments is a story of determination, sacrifice and an unwavering belief in one’s dreams. This is the story of Kenyan comedian and television personality Dr King’ori, whose real name is Felix Omondi.

Dr King’ori has established himself as one of Kenya’s distinctive comedy talents through his unique ability to transform serious national conversations into entertaining yet thought-provoking comedy.

Born and raised in Blue Valley, Embu County, King’ori experienced financial difficulties during his childhood. His mother worked hard to support the family and had hoped that her son would eventually become a medical doctor.

However, life had different plans for him.

According to previous interviews, King’ori attended Embu Urban Primary School before proceeding to Nguviu High School. Despite his mother’s sacrifices towards his education, he developed an interest in entertainment and eventually decided to pursue comedy.

His journey to success was far from easy. After completing secondary school, he moved to Nairobi to pursue opportunities in the entertainment industry. He experienced financial difficulties, sometimes sleeping hungry and depending on friends for accommodation.

His breakthrough came through comedy competitions and appearances on television programmes, including Kenya Kona and Churchill Show.

A major turning point came when renowned journalist Larry Madowo recognised his talent and encouraged him to develop a unique television concept.

This eventually gave birth to The Wicked Edition, a satirical programme that became popular for combining humour, interviews and commentary on current affairs.

The show enjoyed an impressive seven-year run on NTV, producing more than 300 episodes and accumulating over 70 million YouTube views.

In January 2024, the programme aired its final episode on NTV as King’ori announced plans to explore new opportunities beyond the station.

His journey demonstrates that success does not always follow the conventional path. From struggling to establish himself in Nairobi to building a recognised entertainment brand, Felix Omondi has shown the importance of persistence, creativity and believing in one’s abilities.

Today, Dr King’ori remains an influential name in Kenya’s comedy and entertainment industry, inspiring young creatives to pursue their ambitions despite the challenges they may encounter.
