Fresh details have emerged in the murder case of socialite Starlet Wahu, as investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations presented key evidence in court and outlined findings from the crime scene.
While testifying before the Milimani High Court, Detective Alex Chokore told the court that the suspect, John Matara, admitted during interrogation that he stabbed the deceased. The officer also produced several items recovered from the apartment, including a black cap, clothing believed to belong to the suspect, a knife suspected to be the murder weapon, a blood-stained towel, and unused condoms.
The court also heard testimony from Florence Ngina, the owner of the two-room apartment in South B, which she had rented to the accused.
She recounted receiving an urgent call from the watchman, who reported seeing blood flowing from inside the locked unit and advised her to come immediately.
Ngina told the court that upon arrival, she found the door locked and had to use a spare key to gain access.
Inside, she discovered the victim lying in the sitting room with multiple stab wounds and blood spread across the floor. She noted that the room was in disarray, suggesting a struggle had taken place before the killing.
According to her testimony, the watchman, identified as Mr Gitau, reported seeing the suspect leave the apartment through a back corridor shortly after the incident.
Ngina added that the accused had been wearing a black cap, which she believed was meant to conceal his identity, although she could not confirm if the cap presented in court was the exact one.
Investigators further stated that the scene contained scattered personal belongings, including clothing, a wig, shoes, and a handbag.
They also recovered an empty beer bottle and the victim’s mobile phone. CCTV footage presented in court reportedly showed the suspect exiting through a rear passage.
The prosecution maintains that the evidence points to a violent confrontation that ended in the death of the victim.
However, Matara has denied the murder charge. The case continues as the court reviews witness testimonies and forensic findings.
