D Owen

Gospel musician Daddy Owen has responded playfully after Kenyans brought up Charlene Ruto’s recent traditional wedding while reacting to one of his social media posts.

The singer found himself at the centre of attention on Monday, August 10, after sharing a simple birthday message to his friend Eve Maina on X.

Daddy Owen wished her a happy birthday and thanked God for allowing her to celebrate another year.

However, instead of focusing entirely on the birthday message, one Kenyan used the opportunity to tease the musician about Charlene Ruto’s recently held koito ceremony in Kilgoris.

The social media user jokingly told Daddy Owen, “Healing after Charlene kuenda.”

The gospel singer appeared to take the comment lightly and responded with a laughing emoji, asking, “Ata wewe Kibet? 😆”

The exchange quickly reminded Kenyans of the speculation that surrounded Daddy Owen and Charlene in December 2023.

At the time, Charlene visited Daddy Owen’s rural home in Kakamega, where she received a traditional welcome from members of the community.

Images from the visit showed Daddy Owen placing a traditional leso around Charlene’s waist, sparking widespread speculation that the two could have been romantically involved.

The rumours gained momentum online, with some Kenyans interpreting the visit as a possible family introduction.

Daddy Owen, however, dismissed the speculation and maintained that Charlene was his friend and collaborator, particularly through initiatives involving young people and charitable activities.

Almost three years later, Charlene’s koito ceremony has brought the old speculation back into the spotlight.

Her traditional wedding in Kilgoris attracted considerable attention, with several public figures and members of her family attending the colourful event.

Kenyans consequently revived the old jokes about Daddy Owen, although his latest response showed that he appeared unfazed by the teasing.

The brief exchange has once again demonstrated how closely the public continues to follow the lives of prominent Kenyan celebrities and political families.
