A family in Kilifi is grieving the loss of their son, 27-year-old disc jockey Salim Moriasi, popularly known as DJ Goodie, who was tragically killed on Christmas Eve 2022 at County Lux Comfort Hotel in Mariakani.
Reports reveal that the fatal incident occurred following a dispute between DJ Goodie and a reveller, a Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) soldier, over a song request the DJ allegedly failed to play.
A family spokesperson revealed that DJ Goodie sustained multiple injuries to different parts of his body after being assaulted by the soldier.
A postmortem report from Coast General Hospital confirmed he died from cardiorespiratory arrest and a severe head injury.
According to eyewitness accounts and surveillance footage now in circulation, DJ Goodie was engaged in a heated exchange with the soldier before the fatal attack.
The released CCTV footage offers chilling evidence: the soldier, dressed in a red t-shirt, is seen arguing with the DJ, also wearing red. The soldier then forcefully pushed DJ Goodie, who fell to the ground as bystanders watched.
The KDF soldier continued his angry rant, throwing his hands in the air before storming back into the club as if nothing had happened.
Yet, despite the escalating chaos, even after the DJ was pushed to his death, none of the revelers seemed the least bit disturbed by the altercation.
Despite the clear video evidence, the family claims the pursuit of justice has been frustratingly slow. Several months later, they continue to mourn their loss while calling for accountability.
