A suspected child trafficker has been arrested after a joint security operation in Isinya, Kajiado County, led to the rescue of four minors from a bedsitter where the suspect was allegedly staying.
The operation was conducted by officers from the Kenya Police Service, Administration Police Service and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) following investigations into suspected child trafficking activities.
The suspect, identified as Enock Peterson Mwangi, alias Mwamburi, was apprehended at Korompoi Trading Centre in Isinya Sub-County.
During the operation, detectives rescued four minors aged between one and 17 years who were found inside the bedsitter. Their presence at the premises raised concerns among investigators, prompting authorities to take immediate action to ensure their safety.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect may have been operating beyond Isinya, with detectives linking his alleged activities to areas including Mashuru in Kajiado County and Nakuru County.
Investigators are now following additional leads to establish the full extent of the suspected network and determine whether more children could have been affected.
Authorities also raised concerns that some of the rescued minors may have been subjected to other forms of abuse. The children were taken to hospital for medical attention before being placed in safe custody as relevant agencies continued with investigations and welfare interventions.
The suspect remains in police custody as officers complete the necessary procedures before he is arraigned in court to face appropriate charges.
The DCI has warned individuals involved in child trafficking, exploitation or abuse that law enforcement agencies will continue pursuing them and ensuring that they face justice.
