A photo of a businessman linked to the sale of muguka in Machakos County has surfaced as investigations continue into a tragic incident that left three young men dead under controversial circumstances.
The incident occurred on the evening of May 31 in Machakos Town and has sparked outrage among residents and the victims’ families, who are now demanding justice and a thorough investigation into what transpired.
According to information obtained from sources familiar with the matter, Charles Mutiso, a recent graduate of KCA University, was among three friends walking home after watching a football match when tragedy struck.
Mutiso had recently secured employment as a web developer in Nairobi and was reportedly looking forward to beginning a promising career.
Witnesses say Mutiso was walking alongside his brother, Stanley, and another friend when a vehicle allegedly driven by a well-known muguka trader in Machakos struck him.
The impact is said to have fatally injured Mutiso.
In the confusion that followed, Stanley and their friend reportedly rushed to the vehicle and confiscated the driver’s keys.
According to family members and witnesses, the pair feared the motorist might flee the scene before authorities arrived and wanted to ensure he remained at the location of the accident.
However, events quickly took a deadly turn.
Sources claim that after realizing his keys had been taken, the businessman allegedly began shouting for help, accusing the two young men of attempting to steal or carjack his vehicle.
The alarm reportedly attracted a crowd, including boda boda riders who responded to the claims.
The situation escalated rapidly as an angry mob descended on Stanley and his friend. Despite reportedly trying to explain themselves, the two were allegedly beaten mercilessly by the crowd.
The violence later intensified, with reports indicating that the pair were set on fire by the mob.
The third victim, Charles Mutiso, had already succumbed to injuries sustained in the road accident.
The deaths have left two families devastated.
Relatives describe Mutiso as a hardworking and ambitious young man whose future had just begun to take shape.
His friend, who was awaiting graduation from Machakos University, had also been preparing to start the next chapter of his life.
Stanley, on the other hand, was employed by an insurance company and was supporting his family.
