Protest Police

A Nairobi police officer was seriously injured on Wednesday during ongoing Gen Z-led protests in the Central Business District, in what has become one of the most volatile flashpoints of the nationwide demonstrations.

The officer, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was caught in a chaotic confrontation between protesters and law enforcement near Kenyatta Avenue.Witnesses reported that the officer sustained injuries after being overwhelmed by a surge of demonstrators during a tense standoff.

He was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital for urgent medical attention.

As scenes unfolded in real time, human rights activist Hussein Khalid was spotted administering first aid to another officer affected by tear gas exposure.

Elsewhere, protesters from Thika Road poured into the city in large numbers, briefly occupying sections of the Thika Superhighway and forcing police to retreat.

Tear gas canisters were fired outside the Supreme Court in an attempt to push back crowds determined to reach Parliament. The demonstrations, held in honour of those who died during the 2024 anti-Finance Bill protests, have grown in intensity across major towns.

So far, some protesters have reportedly sustained gunshot wounds, though no official fatalities have been confirmed.

Police presence in the capital remains heavy, with roadblocks and water cannons deployed at strategic entry points, including State House Road and Parliament.

Despite calls for calm and nonviolence, the day’s events continue to escalate.

As the protests gain momentum, the focus remains on the youth demanding justice, reform, and remembrance for the lives lost during last year’s unrest.
