Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale is celebrating a major family achievement after his daughter, Melissa Khamwenyi Khalwale, secured admission to her preferred university through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).

The outspoken senator shared the good news on his social media platforms, expressing pride in his daughter’s academic success after the release of the 2026 university and college placement results. According to Khalwale, Melissa successfully went through the KUCCPS placement process and earned a place at the university she had hoped to attend.

In his message, the senator congratulated his daughter and described the achievement as a moment of joy not only for his family but also for residents of his home area of Malinya, who he said were celebrating alongside them. However, he did not disclose the name of the university or the course Melissa will pursue.

Melissa’s admission comes shortly after KUCCPS released placement results for students who sat the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination. Since the announcement, thousands of candidates across the country have been checking their placement status as they prepare to join universities, technical institutions and colleges later this year.

KUCCPS is mandated to place qualified students into public and private universities, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), and other tertiary institutions. Placement is determined by students’ KCSE performance, course preferences and the available capacity in each institution.

This year’s placement exercise drew widespread attention, with many students hoping to secure admission to their first-choice universities and degree programmes. While thousands celebrated successful placements, others expressed disappointment after missing out on their preferred courses because of stiff competition and limited vacancies.

Khalwale’s announcement attracted congratulatory messages from supporters, colleagues and social media users, many of whom wished Melissa success in her university studies. The senator has previously celebrated his children’s academic milestones publicly, using their achievements to encourage young Kenyans to embrace education and work hard toward achieving their goals.
