Kenyan media personality and entrepreneur Betty Kyallo is currently in China as part of a high-profile cultural exchange program organized by the Chinese Embassy in Kenya.
Selected alongside fellow Kenyan creatives comedians Mulamwah, Terence Creative, and MC Jessy the group departed on September 15, 2025, for a week-long tour of Hunan and Fujian provinces, set to conclude on September 23.
The initiative aims to showcase China’s vibrant culture, stunning landscapes, and ongoing development projects, fostering stronger people-to-people ties between Kenya and China.
Betty Kyallo, born Beatrice Mutei Kyallo on March 15, 1989, in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County, Kenya, has emerged as one of the country’s most dynamic media personalities and entrepreneurs.
As the second-born in a family of four siblings including sisters Mercy and Gloria Kyallo, and brother Brian she faced early challenges when her parents, Julia Ngii and Wilfred Kyallo, divorced during her childhood.
Raised primarily by her mother in Nairobi, Betty’s resilience shaped her path from a young dreamer to a trailblazing figure in Kenyan media.
Kyallo’s educational journey began at Olerai Primary School and Uhuru Gardens Primary School, followed by Kangundo Girls High School for secondary education.
A pivotal accident in 2005 nearly derailed her ambitions, but she persevered, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from Daystar University. Inspired by veteran anchor Catherine Kasavuli, Betty initially aspired to become a nun before pivoting to journalism.
Her career ignited at KTN, where she interned and quickly rose to host Friday Briefing and Prime Time News, captivating audiences with her charisma.
In 2017, she transitioned to K24, anchoring Up Close with Betty on weekends. However, seeking greater autonomy amid the COVID-19 pandemic, she resigned in 2020 to launch her entrepreneurial ventures.
Today, she owns Flair by Betty, a high-end salon and spa in Kilimani, Nairobi; Aftershave by Flair Barbershop; and BK Closet, a fashion line. In May 2024, Kyallo made a triumphant media return, joining TV47 as host of This Friday With Betty.
On the personal front, Kyallo’s high-profile marriage to NTV journalist Dennis Okari in 2015 ended after six months, though they share a daughter, Ivanna, born in 2016.
Rumors of romances, including with Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho in 2017, have fueled tabloid interest, but she recently went public with her boyfriend, Charlie Jones, celebrating his birthday amid scenic Ngong Hills.
Kyallo’s influence extends beyond the screen. In 2020, she won TV/Online Influencer of the Year at the Africa Digital Influencer Awards and was named among the 100 Most Influential Young Africans.
She claimed Journalist of the Year at the 2018 Kenyans on Twitter Awards and topped media rankings in 2019. Her 2022 Showmax reality series, Kyallo Kulture, alongside sisters Mercy and Gloria, offers an intimate glimpse into their lives, blending glamour, family drama, and business hustle.
During the pandemic, she spearheaded charity efforts with the Jonathan Jackson Foundation, aiding Nairobi City Stars players.
With over 1.7 million Facebook followers and a YouTube channel showcasing her daily life, Kyallo embodies empowerment.
Her net worth, though undisclosed, reflects a savvy blend of media savvy and business acumen. At 36, Betty Kyallo continues to redefine success, proving that vulnerability and ambition can coexist in Kenya’s spotlight.
