Former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has sparked fresh debate within Kenya’s opposition after delivering a sharp message about politicians she believes are playing on both sides of the political divide.
In remarks shared online, Ngilu suggested that some leaders are close to one political camp behind the scenes but present themselves differently when addressing opposition supporters.
“At night, they sleep at Kasongo’s, and during the day, they are in Wiper,” Ngilu said. She added that she would expose such people, arguing that opposition politics requires honesty and consistency.
Ngilu maintained that leaders should remain clear about where they stand instead of shifting positions to suit different political interests.
Her comments come at a time when the opposition is working to strengthen its unity ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Ngilu has recently returned to major political engagements after a period away from the national spotlight and has continued to feature alongside other opposition figures during efforts to reorganise and expand Azimio’s political base.
The remarks also arrive as Wiper and other opposition parties face growing attention over political alliances and possible deals.
Wiper has recently dismissed reports of an exclusive political agreement involving its leader Kalonzo Musyoka, insisting that discussions about building a broader opposition remain open.
Ngilu’s latest statement is therefore likely to add more pressure to leaders accused of maintaining links with rival camps.
Although she did not name the people she was referring to in the remarks shared online, her words have opened the door to speculation about loyalty within the opposition.
As political realignments continue, Ngilu’s message is clear: she believes opposition leaders must choose a clear path.
Whether her warning will trigger direct responses from those she appeared to target remains to be seen, but the debate over loyalty is becoming harder to ignore.
