Wiper Party is set to undergo a major rebranding, with its name being dropped after 14 years. Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka announced the move, saying it is part of preparations for the next General Election.
Wiper was originally formed in 2007 following Kalonzo’s fallout with Raila Odinga during the battle over the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). The split led to the creation of two factions: ODM under Raila and ODM-Kenya, which Kalonzo later renamed Wiper.
Now, with fresh political realignments looming ahead of 2027, Kalonzo is seeking a new identity for his movement. He promised supporters an “earth-shaking” name that would redefine their political journey.
The decision marks a significant shift as Kalonzo aims to reposition himself and his party to appeal to a broader base and strengthen his bid in the upcoming elections, amid growing competition within the opposition and beyond.
