Kenyans have expressed mixed reactions after two separate fundraising paybills emerged following the death of Albert Ojwang. The two conflicting paybills were shared by comedian Eric Omondi and activist Hanifa Farsafi, causing confusion among well-wishers.
Hanifa said her paybill was the official one approved by the family. She accused Omondi of introducing another paybill and creating unnecessary confusion.
She posted strong remarks online, saying the family was being misled despite giving clear instructions. Hanifa asked Kenyans to ignore any other fundraiser apart from the one she had posted.
Omondi, however, defended himself and said he was also working with the family. He asked his followers to donate through his Sisi Kwa Sisi platform to support the widow and complete a house Albert had started for his mother.
He also shared different account details, asking Kenyans to help raise ten million shillings. This new post only made things more unclear and divided supporters.
Many Kenyans online called for transparency in all fundraising activities. Some demanded that only one paybill be shared publicly to avoid mistrust.
Others accused both parties of turning a painful moment into a personal campaign. A section of the public urged that all efforts be coordinated and focused on the grieving family.
The issue has sparked wider conversations about online fundraisers in sensitive cases. Kenyans now want better guidelines and honesty when dealing with such matters.
