Meru’s political landscape remains tense as former Governor Kawira Mwangaza continues to challenge local leadership following her impeachment. In a recent statement, Mwangaza criticized elected leaders from Meru County, accusing them of prioritizing her impeachment over meaningful development projects.

She highlighted that despite the presence of 11 Members of Parliament, a senator, current and former Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, and 47 MCAs, their collective efforts over two and a half years had resulted in only one major achievement—her removal from office.

Mwangaza sarcastically referred to this as the “Governor Kawira Mwangaza Impeachment Project,” implying that local leaders had sidelined service delivery in favor of political maneuvering.

Her remarks come as President William Ruto prepares for a development tour of the Mt. Kenya region, including Meru County. Mwangaza challenged her political rivals to present tangible projects they had accomplished, suggesting that they had little to showcase beyond their role in her impeachment.
