ODM party has confirmed new leadership changes as shared by journalist Stephen Letoo on his Facebook page. Governors Paul Simba Arati of Kisii and Abdulswamad Nasir of Mombasa have been appointed as the new deputy party leaders, replacing Wycliffe Oparanya and Hassan Joho.

Oparanya and Joho were recently appointed as cabinet secretaries in President Ruto’s government, with Oparanya heading the Ministry of Cooperatives and MSME Development and Joho leading the Ministry of Mining and Blue Economy.

The top leadership position in ODM will remain vacant as Raila Odinga prepares to take a role with the African Union Commission (AUC). These changes are part of ODM’s restructuring efforts following the appointment of key party figures to government positions. The move has sparked mixed reactions, with some questioning ODM’s position as an opposition party now that several of its leaders have joined the government. The new appointments are seen as an effort to maintain strong leadership within the party.
