For the one term she served as Baringo South MP, Grace Kipchoim won the heart of her constituents. In 2013, she had joined the murky world of politics when she ran for MP seat on a URP party ticket. Driven into politics by rampant insecurity in the region, she was keen to make a difference.
In 2013, she had floored several men to clinch the seat. And come the 2017 general election, though she had already been taken ill, she managed to secure re-election while battling colon cancer in hospital bed.
Many attribute her re-election despite not campaigning to her impressive development record especially in matters to do with insecurity in the region.
Though hers re-election was a narrow one, but Kipchoim had confirmed that she was the right persona for the job.
But in April 2017, the sad news broke out that the 49-year old legislator had succumbed to cancer after a two-year battle.
Her funeral was turned into a full-fledged political rally as the allies of the then Deputy President William Ruto and former Baringo Senator Gideon Moi clashed.
Dr Ruto’s allies had accused Moi for allegedly working with his (Moi’s) political enemies to block his presidential bid.
