A group of popular Kikuyu musicians on Monday, October 31, visited former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta at her residence.

The group which endorsed and campaigned for Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Party presidential candidate Raila Odinga in the August general election was led by veteran musician Ben Githae.

Others in the group were veteran Benga artist Peter Kigia, and gospel artist Martin Wa Janet, Pastor Sir James and Regina Muthoga.

Taking to his Facebook page, Martin said they just dropped by former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s mother house to check on her.

“A grateful child never forgets their mother. Thank you Uhuru’s mum and we are happy to have found you in peace,” posted the Akorino artist.

On his part, Kigia said: “It is good to visit the elderly so we can receive their blessings. God bless the mother of our nation and also our parents because they are the one who brought us to this world.”

The musicians received a lot of bashing from Mt Kenya residents for endorsing Raila who had the blessings of Uhuru but they supported him to the last day.

In a past interview, Githae said he was loyal to Uhuru and could not have betrayed him by backing his friend-turnd-ally William Ruto who went ahead to win the presidency.

“We shall go around drumming up support for Odinga and a number of artistes are also part of the plan to ensure he becomes the next President of Kenya. I vowed to support whoever the President will endorse and that has not changed,” said the Tano Tena hitmaker.

Their visit did not go well with a section of fans who claimed the musicians went to collect their cheques for having campaigned for Azimio candidate.

“Distance yourself from such avenues to remain relevant….mixing gospel and politics will eventually single you out from one,” said Dennis Gachoki.
