Safaricom has issued a warning that scammers are taking advantage of Kenyans’ mandated SIM card registration under the Communications Authority of Kenya’s decision to con them. Safaricom urged Kenyans against providing sensitive information like their ID number, M-Pesa PIN, or the contacts of people they frequently call in a text message to its subscribers.
The decision to register all SIM cards will enable the government to root out fraudsters and criminals who use unregistered cell phone lines to commit crimes, claims the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA). The CA reported that mobile service providers have canceled a total of 287,214 SIM cards prior to the deadline for SIM card registration on October 15, 2022.
According to the CA, the deactivation took place between June 2022 and October 15, 2022. The SIM cards that were deactivated were those that had been registered with the incorrect identifying information, according to the Authority’s report. Have a good time, and thank you very much.
