Former Kirinyaga Woman Representative Wangui Ngirici has dismissed claims that she is a political “mole” within the United Opposition, urging leaders opposed to President William Ruto to put aside their differences and unite behind a single presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Ngirici said accusations questioning her loyalty to the opposition movement were unfounded, arguing that her focus remains on building a political coalition capable of mounting a serious challenge against Ruto.
The former legislator called on opposition leaders to prioritise the interests of Kenyans over individual ambitions, warning that fielding several presidential candidates could split the anti-government vote and give Ruto an advantage.
According to Ngirici, the opposition has an opportunity to change the political equation in 2027 if its leaders agree on a common candidate and develop a clear agenda that resonates with voters across the country.
She maintained that political unity should not be interpreted as surrendering individual ambitions but rather as recognising the importance of collective action.
Ngirici’s remarks come amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, with several opposition figures positioning themselves to challenge Ruto.
The former Kirinyaga Woman Representative said leaders within the United Opposition must begin honest discussions on how to identify a candidate who can command broad national support.
She also appeared to reject attempts to portray her as working against opposition interests, insisting that her political decisions should not be interpreted through the lens of internal party rivalries.
The “mole” allegations have emerged as political parties and movements intensify their preparations for the next election, with questions over who will lead a possible coalition against the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Ngirici argued that Kenyans were looking for an alternative leadership capable of addressing economic challenges, unemployment and the rising cost of living.
She urged opposition leaders to avoid repeating the mistakes of previous elections, when divisions among competing political camps allowed the ruling side to consolidate support.
