East African music meets power as prominent Ugandan musician Jose Chameleone shared a special moment with Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan during the Kizimkazi Festival 2026 in Zanzibar.
The celebrated Ugandan musician met President Hassan on stage, where the two were pictured together during the major cultural event that has attracted attention across East Africa.
Chameleone, who was dressed in a patterned black coat and boots, appeared relaxed as he stood alongside the Tanzanian leader against a dolphin-themed backdrop.
The meeting comes as the legendary musician continues his regional tour, strengthening his connection with fans and cultural figures across East Africa.
His appearance at the festival also highlighted the growing links between Uganda and Tanzania through music and entertainment.
The Kizimkazi Festival is one of Zanzibar’s major annual cultural and tourism events. The 2026 edition marks its 10th anniversary and focuses heavily on the blue economy, marine activities and regional participation.
The festival itself has an interesting history. It began around 2015 as a community celebration connected to Samia Suluhu Hassan, who was then the Member of Parliament for Makunduchi, after she was selected as the running mate to the late President John Magufuli.
What started as a local gathering later developed into Samia Day, Kizimkazi Day and eventually a larger international festival.
The 2026 edition follows a break in 2025 because of Tanzania’s general elections and preparations for development projects.
For many Ugandans, seeing Chameleone sharing the stage with President Samia is another reminder of how music can bring East Africans together beyond political borders.
