A traffic police officer in Uasin Gishu County has been praised for extending a helping hand to a Form Three student who was stranded after failing to raise enough fare to travel home.Corporal Abraham Bitok, who is attached to Tarakwa Police Station in Kesses, encountered Collins Kiprotich after the student was asked to alight from a matatu because he could not pay full fare to Bintura.
While speaking with the student, the officer noticed that Collins was wearing a badly worn-out school uniform.
Moved by his situation, Bitok paid his transport fare and asked him to visit Tarakwa Police Station after arriving home safely.
When Collins returned a few days later, the officer fulfilled his promise by taking him to a nearby shopping centre, where he bought him a complete set of school uniforms, including shirts, trousers, a sweater and socks.
Despite the support, Collins still requires KSh 71,000 to clear his school fee balance, with another KSh 43,000 needed for his final year of secondary school.
His story has touched many Kenyans, who have applauded Corporal Bitok for demonstrating compassion and reminding the public that acts of kindness can transform lives.
