Pastor Victor Kanyari has alleged that his two children, Danny and Sky, have returned to live with their stepfather, Hiram Gitau, popularly known as Tash, amid the family’s ongoing custody dispute.
Speaking during a phone interview with content creator Shiru wa Okaland, Kanyari claimed the children were collected from school after their late mother, gospel singer Betty Bayo, had previously registered both herself and Tash as their official guardians. According to him, the school’s records permitted Tash to pick up the children without any restrictions.
Despite the reported living arrangement, Kanyari insisted that he continues to shoulder the financial responsibility for his children’s welfare. He stated that he has consistently paid their school fees, rent, and other essential expenses, maintaining that his support has never stopped even after the children reportedly went back to live with their stepfather.
During the conversation, Shiru questioned why Kanyari had not taken stronger legal measures to secure his parental rights. She argued that if he is indeed responsible for the children’s education and upkeep, he should ensure that the school and the relevant authorities formally recognize his role as their primary guardian.
Shiru further advised him to stop paying school fees unless his status as the children’s guardian is officially acknowledged. She also encouraged him to pursue custody through the appropriate legal channels to safeguard his parental rights and provide clarity on the matter.
Kanyari additionally alleged that a budget of KSh 100,000 had been set aside to cater for the children’s needs, although he did not provide further details or evidence to support the claim.
Shiru also expressed concern that the children could be negatively affected if the custody dispute eventually proceeds to court. She urged Kanyari to address the issue publicly before it reaches that stage.
However, Kanyari maintained that he does not want the disagreement to become a public spectacle. He said, “I do not want the family dispute to become a public spectacle,” adding that his main concern is to shield the children from unnecessary drama.
The custody dispute has continued to generate significant public interest, sparking widespread discussion about parental rights, legal guardianship, and the need to resolve family conflicts through lawful, child-focused processes that prioritize the well-being of the children involved.
