Gisiri Nyamohanga

She is the only female regional police commander in Kenya’s eighth regions. This just undescores her place in the police service and security sector as a whole.

Known for her firmness, Nyanza regional police commander Gisiri Nyamohanga is one of the most successful women in the National Police Service in Kenya today.

Nyamohanga was appointed to the position early this year to succeed Patrick Tito who was appointed as principal assistant to the Deputy Inspector General of Police in-charge of the Kenya Police Service wing, Eliud Lagat.

Before her appointment to her current role, Nyamohanga served as the commandant, Senior Police Service Training College, Emali campus.

Now in the senior rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police, Nyamohanga is the engine running all security matters in Nyanza.

Her leadership skills were tested during the October 2025 funeral of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga as thousands thronged the streets of Kisumu and Siaya counties to mourn the political collosus.
