Popular Luo comedian Geoffrey Omondi, famously known as Pengele, has found himself at the center of a heated matrimonial property dispute that has now spilled onto social media. The comedian recently accused his estranged wife of trying to take over a house they built together in his ancestral home in Homa Bay County.
The dispute became public after videos and posts circulated online showing Pengele speaking emotionally about the matter. According to reports, the house in question was constructed on ancestral land belonging to the comedian’s family. However, his estranged wife allegedly financed a large part of the construction while living abroad.
The comedian claimed that despite a court ruling reportedly favoring him, his former partner was still attempting to reclaim the property. Pengele also alleged that unknown people had been sent to intimidate him at the homestead. In one viral video, he boldly declared that he would not leave the home, insisting that the matter had already been settled legally.
Close friend and social commentator Jaruda Mambobiad also weighed in on the matter online. He explained that Pengele presented receipts and evidence in court showing that he contributed building materials and other resources toward the construction of the home. The court reportedly ruled in his favor because the house stands on ancestral land tied to his family roots in Kagan, Homa Bay County.
The situation has sparked debate among Kenyans online, with many divided over how matrimonial property should be shared after separation or divorce. Some social media users argued that anyone who financially contributes to building a home deserves a share of it, regardless of where it is built. Others defended Pengele, saying ancestral land carries cultural and family significance that cannot easily be transferred.
Pengele is one of Kenya’s well-known Luo comedians and has entertained fans for years through stage performances and comedy productions centered on Luo culture and family life. Over the years, he built a strong fan base through relatable humor and storytelling.
