Three people died early Saturday morning after a Mercedes-Benz reportedly veered off Mbagathi Way in Nairobi, crashed, and burst into flames, according to reports.

The victims were burnt beyond recognition after the vehicle caught fire, with emergency responders later retrieving their bodies from the wreckage.

At the time of publication, authorities had not officially released the identities of the deceased or confirmed the cause of the crash.

According to reports and eyewitness accounts, the accident occurred during the night as the occupants were travelling along Mbagathi Way. Reports suggest the vehicle left the roadway before catching fire.

Witnesses claimed the occupants appeared to have been heavily intoxicated before the crash and were unable to escape the burning vehicle. However, these claims had not been independently verified by police or other official agencies at the time of publication.

A video circulating online shows the burnt-out remains of a Mercedes-Benz at the crash scene as emergency personnel and members of the public gathered nearby.

The footage also shows the vehicle extensively damaged by fire, although it does not independently establish the circumstances leading to the accident.

Official statements confirming the exact sequence of events, including whether speed, alcohol, or mechanical failure contributed to the crash, were not immediately available.

Investigators are expected to examine the wreckage and collect witness statements as part of the ongoing inquiry.

The incident has renewed concerns over dangerous driving, particularly during late-night hours. Road safety experts have consistently urged motorists to avoid driving while impaired and to observe speed limits, noting that alcohol significantly reduces reaction time and increases the risk of fatal crashes.

The location of the crash is near a flyover carrying the road safety message, “Don’t Fly, Please Drive.” While the slogan has drawn attention following the tragedy, authorities have not linked it to the incident.

Police are expected to release additional information once investigations are complete and the victims have been formally identified.
