Wajackoyah confirmed that Obunga, now a Lieutenant, is expected to be commissioned as a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army following the milestone.
“He has made us proud. A PhD is the way to go, Lieutenant, as you progress to the next rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army,” the former presidential candidate wrote, noting that fellow Kenyans and Obunga’s colleagues also turned up for the occasion.
The family posed for photos at the ceremony, visibly elated as they marked the achievement together.
Kenyans online responded warmly to the news, with many praising both father and son.
“You struggled the most so that your children would understand struggle no more. You are an inspiration in academia,” one commenter wrote.
“Congratulations to Lt. Obunga. The sky is the limit. Truly, an apple does not fall far from the tree,” another added.
