EACC has clarified reports linking Governor Simon Kachapin to a KSh 5.3 million corruption case, stating the governor was mistakenly identified as an accused person in ongoing proceedings. The commission said the error arose from confusion in documentation and has since been corrected.
According to the anti graft body, the actual accused individual is a separate party who is required to appear before the Milimani Law Courts to answer to charges relating to alleged misappropriation of public funds. The commission emphasized that Governor Kachapin has not been charged and is not under investigation in connection with the matter.
EACC further explained that the accused faces allegations of abuse of office, fraudulent acquisition of public resources, and conflict of interest, all linked to the KSh 5.3 million transaction under scrutiny. It added that the case file was properly filed and is proceeding through the legal system.
The commission urged the public and media outlets to exercise caution when reporting on corruption cases to avoid misinformation and reputational harm. It reiterated its commitment to pursuing accountability while respecting due process and the rights of all individuals involved.
Governor Kachapin, who was briefly mentioned in circulating reports, has since been cleared of any involvement in the case, with EACC reaffirming that the matter before court concerns a different suspect entirely.
Authorities said investigations continue and urged members of the public to rely only on verified official statements as the matter progresses through court, warning against spreading unverified claims that may mislead the public or damage reputations further in ongoing proceedings at Milimani Law Courts.
