Taita Taveta ACK Bishop Liverson Mng’onda has urged a bereaved family to reject KSh600,000 donated by President William Ruto and Taveta MP John Bwire during the burial of the late Rev. Silvanus Mwakoma.
The bishop made the remarks on Friday during the burial service in Kirutai, Voi, where he strongly criticized the political donations given to the family.
The KSh600,000 comprised KSh500,000 from President Ruto and KSh100,000 from MP John Bwire Okano.
In his sermon, Bishop Mng’onda claimed that God had revealed to him in a vision that the money was tainted and instructed the family to return it.
The bishop also criticized the politicians for what he described as an arrogant manner of delivering the donations and accused them of using the funeral to highlight government development projects.
However, the family did not heed the bishop’s call.
During the vote of thanks, a brother of the deceased publicly thanked President Ruto and MP Bwire for their support.
The family confirmed that it had accepted the full KSh600,000 and would use the money to support the education and welfare of the late reverend’s children.
